Wining and dining

Forlì, and Romagna in general, are well-known for their unique wining and dining products. From the extraordinary fruit (peaches, kiwis, apples, pears and cherries), to the unmistakable shallot. From the extra-virgin olive oil produced in Brisighella and on the Romagna hills, to tasty fresh cheeses such as squacquerone – a perfect accompaniment to His Majesty Maestà, piadina bread - or raviggiolo from the Tosco-Romagnolo Apennine area; mention should also be made of mature cheeses, such as those seasoned in the pits of Sogliano al Rubicone. And what about meat? From the fresh Romagna beef cuts to the appetising typical “Mora Romagnola” cold cuts, from the meat of pigs with a dark skin and black bristles. Romagna, however, is not only inland. It is also seaside. Then why not taste the mouthwatering Adriatic fish or the “white gold” from Cervia, the artisan sea salt well known to connoisseurs because of its sweetness? And as a tribute to this richly set table, mention should be made also of first courses with home-made pasta, and of raised glasses with excellent wines from Romagna: Sangiovese, Albana, Trebbiano, Pagadebit, and Cagnina.

Nature

If you love nature and life outdoors, Forlì and the rest of Romagna provide surprising sceneries: a beating “green heart” which ranges from the Apennine ridges to the lagoons in the Po Delta are. To discover the most ancient forest in Europe you should venture into the National Park of the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona and Campigna with its 36,000 hectares of protected land, where you will get a chance to see wolves, wild boards, roe deer, fawns… on the other hand, if you are travelling from the Sillaro Valley to Brisighella, through the Lamone valley, it is worth stopping to take a look at the spectacular silver-grey crest which crosses 25 km of the Romagna hills: you are in the Regional Park of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola with its alternating dales, blind valleys and caves. And what about the Po Delta Park? It is the largest expanse of protected wetlands in Italy and the most rich in biodiversity, featuring over 280 bird species which make it a true paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts. Last but not least, you have the wonderful local arts and culture. Ready to go? The Nature of Romagna will receive you in style, providing excitement, discoveries and adventure.
